What is a Conservation Area?
These are areas of architectural or historic interest designated by the local planning authority in order that their character can be preserved or enhanced. Conservation Area Consent is required to demolish any building that lies within a conservation area. Trees are also protected within a conservation area.

Since 6 February 2012, Planning Permission is required for a wide range of types of development in Conservation Areas, including relatively small scale alterations that may not previously have required permission. Any alteration that affects the character of a conservation area may need planning permission and it is advisable to consult with a Conservation Officer at Aberdeen City Council for further advice when you are developping your proposal by contacting Planning Enquiries pn 01224 523470 Email pi@aberdeencity.gov.uk.

Aberdeen City currently has 11 designated conservation areas.
