What is a Conservation Area?
These are areas of architectural or historic interest designated by the local planning authority in order that their character can be preserved or enhanced. Conservation Area Consent is required to demolish any building that lies within a conservation area. In addition Aberdeen's conservation areas are further protected by Article 4 directions that require planning permission to be sought for a range of works that would otherwise be permitted development. Trees are also protected within a conservation area. Any alteration that affects the character of a conservation area may need planning permission and it is advisable to consult with a Conservation Officer at Aberdeen City Council for further advice contact Paul Pillath pn 01224 522228 Email paulp@aberdeencity.gov.uk.
