There are lots of ways to find out about the place where you live.
You can...
 
Look at what archaeologists have uncovered about the way we used to live in the past.  
Look at Old Maps to see how the place you live has grown or changed.  
Look at old paintings, pictures, photographs and films.  
Read what people have written about a place.  
Look at the buildings around you.  
All of these bits of evidence give us clues that can be pieced together to give us a better understand about where people used to live. Like trying to solve a crime, you may not find all the evidence you need, but you can often find out enough to be reasonably certain of the facts about where you live.
