2026 Aberdeen Heritage Lectures

The Trust’s annual diet of talks commences on 17 February

Six lectures run from 7pm-8pm on Tuesday evenings through to 24 March covering a diverse range of subjects including landscape design,  contemporary design in historic settings, how to “read” the history of church buildings,  a support network for heritage regeneration plus two talks about granite.

Dr Stephen Parry and Paul Everett of the British Geological Survey will explore granite’s geological origins, through to its quarrying and use. Professor Marjory Harper of the University of Aberdeen considers a human dimension of the industry, the pioneering spirits who travelled across the Atlantic in the C19th and used their skills in the burgeoning late C19th granite quarrying and stone processing industries in North America.

Lectures are delivered by Zoom. There is a small charge for tickets to cover costs. Students go free. For more details and for booking tickets via Eventbrite the set of six lectures can be found here.

The Trust recognises the support of our speakers this year, plus Historic Environment Scotland and Aberdeen City Council, which contribute to the Trust’s activities.
